UCI gives up six homers in loss

SANTA BARBARA — The UC Irvine baseball team, ranked No. 1, gave up a season-high six home runs, losing, 8-2, to UC Santa Barbara in a Big West Conference game Saturday.
The loss snapped a five-game win streak for the Anteaters (42-13, 21-2 in conference), who hadn’t dropped a Saturday contest since the series finale against Utah (April 25).
UCSB (29-22, 11-12) jumped on the board in the first, getting a two-out RBI single from Ryan Cavan and then took a 4-0 lead in the third as Mark Haddow, Brian Gump and Cavan each hit solo home runs off starter Christian Bergman.
Bergman fell to 9-2, giving up six runs on seven hits in five innings. The right-hander struck out five and walked four. Cory Hamilton pitched three innings and allowed a pair of runs while striking out two.
