Former mayor discusses airport

Speak Up Newport, a community nonprofit, has invited former Mayor Tom Edwards to talk about John Wayne Airport and answer the questions of concerned nearby residents at the organization’s monthly meeting Wednesday night.
Edwards helped draft the settlement agreement between Newport Beach, the airport and community groups in 1985, which limits the number of annual passengers to 10.8 million.
That agreement expires in 2015.
The night’s activities begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Newport Beach Yacht Club, 1099 Bayside Drive.
The event is free and open to the public, and reservations are unnecessary, organizers said.
