Trio all tie for fifth

VALLEY CENTER — Fountain Valley High product Brad Keenan and partner Nick Lucena finished tied for fifth over the weekend at the Assn. of Volleyball Professionals Crocs Tour San Diego Open.
On the women’s side, Ocean View High alums Tracy and Katie Lindquist also finished tied for fifth.
Keenan and Lucena, seeded fifth, made their way through the winner’s bracket before falling to No. 4 Sean Scott and John Hyden, 21-17, 21-9. After winning a pair of contender’s bracket matches, they were one match short of the semifinals when they fell to No. 7 John Mayer and Jeff Nygaard, 13-21, 21-19, 15-5.
The Lindquist sisters, who both still live in Surf City, were seeded sixth. They were upset in their first winners’ bracket match by No. 11 Priscilla Lima and Tatiana Minello, 21-16, 21-14. They then made won three contender’s bracket matches, including an upset over No. 4 Tyra Turner and Angie Akers, before falling to No. 3 Jenny Johnson Jordan and Annett Davis, 21-17, 21-17.
It was their second fifth-place finish in three AVP tournaments this season.
Both Keenan and Lucena, as well as the Lindquists, split $6,240.
The AVP Tour continues May 15 in Houston, then makes its annual stop at the Huntington Beach Open starting May 21.
