Doctor lectures on immune system

In the heat of the swine flu, Dr. Ralph Steinman, from the Rockefeller University, will be lecturing about “Manipulating Your Immune System for Better Vaccines Against Pathogens, Cancer, Allergy and Autoimmune Disorders” at 7 tonight, in the Beckman Center of the National Academies of Sciences and Engineering, Building 80, 100 Academy, in Irvine.

As traditional vaccines are meant to create immunity against microbes and thus prevent infectious diseases, Steinman will be discussing vaccines that influence immune cells, maybe even helping in the treatment of cancer, autoimmunity and allergies.

Although this event is free and open to the public, reservations are required and can be made by e-mail at [email protected] or by calling (949) 824-2500.
