UCI’s Shahi best of the month for Big West golf

UC Irvine senior Sean Shahi has been named Big West Conference Golfer of the Month for April. The award covered tournaments preceding the Big West Championship.

Shahi tallied two top-10 finishes in heavily-weighted fields. He began the month with a ninth-place finish of 96 golfers at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational at Karsten Golf Club in Tempe, Ariz., after firing an even-par 213 (71-73-69).

The following week, Shahi carded a four-under-par 206 (69-66-71) to tie for 10th place in the 92-player field at the U.S. Intercollegiate at the Stanford University Golf Course. His 66 in the second round was a season-low for him.

Shahi shared the April award with UC Davis’ Ramie Sprinkling.

UCI, which finished second in the Big West Championship earlier this week, will learn Monday if it receives an at-large berth into an NCAA regional.
