Newport Beach resident Glatch bounced in Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Alexa Glatch, a Newport Beach resident, reached the quarterfinals where she was upset in the Boyd Tinsley Pro Tennis Tournament Friday at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.

The top-seeded Glatch, ranked No. 119, lost to Lindsay Lee-Waters, 6-3, 6-2. Lee-Waters advanced to face Carly Gullickson.

Glatch, 19, was coming off one of the biggest wins of her young career. She scored a huge victory in her Fed Cup debut Sunday in Brno of the Czech Republic.

Glatch beat Petra Kutova of Czech Republic, 6-2, 6-1.

She helped lead Team USA to its first final since 2003.

Glatch and the rest of the Americans will play in the Fed Cup final on Nov. 7-8 against Italy, which beat defending champion Russia.
