HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP:
Fountain Valley High junior Kyle Middlebrooks won both the 100- and 200-meter dashes Saturday at the Orange County Championships track and field meet at Mission Viejo High.
Middlebrooks won the 100 in a wind-aided time of 10.48 seconds, tops in the state this season. His time of 21.54 in the 200 was the fourth-best in the state this year.
Huntington Beach senior Allison Koressel added to her standout season with a winning vault of 12 feet, 6 inches in the girls’ pole vault.
Koressel has the top state mark of 13-1, which she has cleared twice this season.
Fountain Valley junior Jeff Tran won the boys’ vault with his mark of 15-6.
Among other top five finishers, Edison’s Matt McElroy finished second in the seeded 3,200 in 9:13.11, and the Chargers’ Sean Larson took second in the triple jump (44-11 3/4 ).
The Barons’ Krissy Knowles was second in the girls’ 100 hurdles (15.15) and third in the 300 hurdles (46.48).
Marina’s Jennifer Wang was fourth in the girls’ triple jump (34-0 3/4 ).

SOFTBALL
Marina earned a 6-2 victory at Esperanza Tuesday, ending the first round of Sunset League play in first place with a perfect 5-0 record.
Jamie Sullivan had a three-run home run for the Vikings (19-3), ranked No. 5 in CIF Southern Section Division I. Senior pitcher Taysia Kaufman improved to 13-2.

SWIMMING
Edison swept the boys’ and girls’ races at Los Alamitos Tuesday in a Sunset League meet.
The boys posted a 90-80 win, while the girls won 98-70. Cal-bound senior Tom Shields helped the Chargers boys by winning the 50-yard freestyle (21.09) and 100 free (45.93) in season-best times.
