The sun is not shining quite as brightly today with the
passing of Dick Jones. He attended Newport Elementary
and Newport Harbor High School where he was a senior
class officer. He starred in track holding the Sunset
League championship for the 100 yard dash for two years
and was high point man as a senior. He played first
string varsity in football.
He was a Newport Beach lifeguard and loved the beach.
He was in the Air Force for two years as a B-36 tailgunner
and later workd with his father and brother at Paul Jones
Realty in Newport. He moved to Texas for several years
and returned to California where he worked for Home
Savings. He retired to Irvine with his beloved dogs.
He was predeceased by his wife, Rosemary and brother,
Bob Jones. He is survived by his brother Don Jones,
daughter, Susan Zorich, son Dan Jones and son, Rick
Jones. He had three grandchildren, Lauren Hurst, Nicole
Zorich, Ryan Hurst & wife Cristina and one great grand-
child Kylie.
Dick was always fun loving. He learned a love of the
Sierras on fishing trips with his Dad and brothers as a
youngster. He liked sailing, watercolor painting and
sometimes, golf. Dick and his older brothers made
several trips to Catalina on the family boat in the past
few years. All of them good fishermen and boatmen.
He had many loyal friends who will miss him.
Graveside service will be at Pacific View Thursday
April 30th at 2:30 o.m. Casual attire. Reception at the
Newport Beach Elks Club immediately following.
