‘Green tourism’ lauded in Laguna

Laguna Beach is known for its beautiful coastline and talented artists, but some are hoping the city will have a new drawing-card — as a “green” destination.

To that end, GreenLagunaBeach.com launched on April 22, Earth Day, as “a comprehensive clearinghouse for all things green in Laguna Beach,” according to a statement from the Laguna Beach Visitors & Conference Bureau, which developed the site in cooperation with the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce and Waste Management.

The site promotes “green tourism” opportunities for visitors, showcases the natural, cultural, business and sustainable resources in town, and serves as a resource for local residents, organizations and companies interested in the environment, according to the bureau.

“The site encourages the discovery of Laguna Beach as an eco-tourism destination, offering a wealth of information and plentiful links that reveal exciting, new ideas whether visiting, working or living in Laguna Beach,” the bureau states.

The Visitors’ section of the site features lodging, dining and retail establishments that have adopted eco-friendly practices, while Locals’ section offers resources for residents and businesses to improve energy efficiency and operate more sustainably.

The site provides sample itineraries, transportation options, walking and hiking tours, farmers’ market listings and event calendars.

Karyn Philippsen, president of the Laguna Beach Visitors & Conference Bureau board of directors, called GreenLagunaBeach.com “an informational hub for planning your next green visit to Laguna Beach.”

“Laguna Beach has always been active in the sustainability movement, and now GreenLagunaBeach.com brings everything together with one click,” said Judith Bijlani, executive director for the Laguna Beach Visitors & Conference Bureau. “Whether a traveler, resident or local business owner, those who appreciate Laguna Beach share an interest in making sure we can all enjoy everything the town has to offer for many years to come.”

The design and ongoing hosting will be courtesy of the Bureau with input and oversight by participating partners.
