Lost her battle with cancer on the
morning of March 28, 2009.
She is survived by her sister Lutie
Lindeman, daughter Pat Baker,
son Mike Murphy, six grandchildren,
eight great grandchildren.
Born to Harry Hayes and Nelle
King Williamson in San Diego,
Ca, April 18, 1922. Harry Hayes
Williamson was mayor of Newport
Beach in 1939-40.
The family moved to Balboa in
1925, she enjoyed swimming and
2 shing and loved the sea. In 1937, she saved a boy from
drowning and received a Gold medal from the Newport
Beach City Council. She graduated from Newport Harbor
High, in 1940, and went on to business school. She later
married William James Murphy, a Navy man, and traveled
following the 7 eet, mostly on the east coast. Dee returned to
Newport in 1957 to raise her two children as a single mom.
She owned and operated “Dee’s Beauty Shop” for 30 years.
In her later years she enjoyed golf, bicycling, and gardening.
Her strength of character and persistence are lessons her
family has learned from her, and she is greatly missed.
