Laguna Beach’s boys’ golfers make the grade
The Laguna Beach High boys’ golf team can do much more than hit a small, white ball really far.
The Breakers golfers have been named a CIF Southern Section Team Academic Award winner for 2008-09. Their collective 3.667 grade-point average was tops among schools in the section with an enrollment less than 1,500.
“Last year, our football team was the top academic team in the state,” Laguna Beach Athletic Director Mike Churchill said. “This is the same thing all over again. It’s pretty good.”
The boys’ golf team, the defending Orange Coast League champion, will be honored April 22 in a pregame ceremony prior to the Los Angeles Angels’ home game against the Detroit Tigers.
Churchill said it’s the second year in a row that every Laguna sports team has a collective GPA over 3.0.
“That just tells you a little bit about the kids we’re working with,” he said.
