Local teams spend break playing in Beach Pit Classic

Costa Mesa, Corona del Mar, Estancia and Newport Harbor will play host to high school baseball games in the Beach Pit Classic, which gets underway today.

The four-day, 16-team tournament has Costa Mesa against Beckman at 11 a.m., Corona del Mar against Godinez at 11 a.m., Estancia against Laguna Hills at 2 p.m., and Newport Harbor against San Juan Hills at 2 p.m.

Other teams in action include, South Hills, Rancho Alamitos, Ventura, Garden Grove, Canyon, Century, Fountain Valley and Santa Ana.

After today’s action, the tournament will resume Monday and run until Wednesday. The championship is set for Wednesday at Corona del Mar at 2 p.m.
