GREER’S BEST BUYS:

Macy’s Home at South Coast Plaza recently opened the first Signature Kitchen, a new concept in fast-casual dining. The Signature Kitchen combines three casual eateries from three celebrated chefs each with distinct culinary backgrounds.

The trio to choose from: Nancy Silverton’s La Brea Bakery, Marc Samuelsson’s Marc Burger and Cat Cora’s ’Que, or CCQ. The great part about the new concept — you don’t have to stick to one chef.

There’s a universal ordering system — all three menus available at same counter. There’s La Brea Bakery’s famed Nancy Silverton’s sandwiches, soup and salads. Try her favorite tuna melt with white cheddar on sliced potato dill bread; chicken salad sandwich; and bacon and avocado, watercress served on a plain rustique roll.

Then there’s Marc Samuelsson’s Burger — who combines his Ethiopian roots and Swedish upbringing to bring the best in all-natural (grass-fed Black Angus ground-beef) burgers, the best French fries we’ve had to date; and signature frozen custards (frozen custard milkshakes, are the best) And the Food Network’s star Cat Cora’s ’Que, who grew up in Mississippi, with Greek influences, cultivated a global spin on traditional Southern barbecue.

She infuses flavors from around the world in sauces. Tomato-based Asian hoisin and green gaucho chile sauce make all-natural pulled pork and “slow and low” beef brisket.

Try her global bean with smoked cinnamon; and classic cheddar and scallion or blue corn and jalapeño corn bread Madeleines.

Macy’s on Level 1 at South Coast Plaza, is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
