ROBERT MARTENS HARRISON
Born 6-13-34 Died 2-27-09
Former longtime Laguna Beach resident Robert Harrison died
at home friday February 27th of natural causes. He was 74
years old.
Mr. Harrison moved to Costa Mesa seven years ago where he
had been in declining health for many of those years. Robert
grew up in Los Angeles and moved to south Orange County
in 1981. Bob, as he was known to friends, was an active
member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 30 years sponsoring
countless newcomers to the program by freely giving his time,
hope and experience to all whom asked. There were no limits
to his generosity for anyone suffering the horrors of addiction.
A.A. has lost a faithful champion for it’s cause.
Bob was known for his keen wit, offbeat sense of humor and
his love of European and American history as well as tanning
on Laguna’s beachs. Bob was a navy radio man during the
Korean War. After the war he became a postman before
starting a career at the Auto Club. Eventually he went on
to work for various insurance companies as an independent
appraisor before retiring.
Mr. Harrison was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers,
2 former wives and his only child, a daughter Brenda who
died at the age of 13, and many beloved cats he had rescued
over the years..
Bob is survived by his nephew Jack Harrison of Palmdale, Fred
Trent of New Jersey, his former longtime companion and his
good friend Mark Wiley of Lake Arrowhead.
Mr. Harrison was cremated at his request. Further
arrangements are pending.
