Man allegedly involved in death of local is arrested

A man who has been wanted since 2000 for allegedly being involved in the shooting of a Huntington Beach resident has been apprehended in Santa Cruz, according to authorities.

Daran Matthew Gudehus, 34, was arrested on Highway 1 March 5 without bail in relation to a November 2000 case in which a Huntington Beach man, Michael Steven Olvera, 19, was shot during a gang-related fight at a Garden Grove party.

Olvera died later of his wounds.

It is not clear whether Gudehus was the shooter or an accomplice.

The counts against Gudehus include murder, attempted murder and street terrorism; enhancements include use of a weapon to commit a felony and for being a member of a criminal street gang, District Attorney spokeswoman Farrah Emami said.
