COMMUNITY & CLUBS:

A hearty group of Lions, 20 to be exact, set sail Feb. 20 for a visit to the Ensenada Lions Club, under the leadership of District Gov. Elizabeth Warren, reports Lions District Region Chairwoman Joan Parks.

Those on this trip were Past District Governors Mike and Sandi Scheafer, Barbara and Ron Hayward, Jon and Sheila Casteel, and Lion members Terese and John Ganser, Cathy Waters and Alan, Carol Van Holt, Joan Parks, Pat Mason, Shirley, Nancy Smith, Loyce Mejias, Martha Hebert, and Ken and Denise Myers.

This time the trip was done via a big cruise ship, which allowed the participants to spend Saturday in Ensenada, visiting and having a luncheon with the Ensenada Lions Club.

“This is the 51st visitation by our district to the Ensenada Lions Club, and they were as hospitable as ever. The Lions and their wives treated us to a delicious lunch of chicken or fish plus all the sides and wine. It was a great visit, for some of us with old friends.

“We got to see recent pictures of their latest projects and of course many pictures of the school we have contributed to in the past,” noted Parks.

At the end of Feb. 21, the Lions members got back on the cruise ship for an evening of dinning, casino time and a full day in the sun Feb. 22 before returning to port in Long Beach.

BIG TREE DEDICATION THURSDAY

Members of the Rotary Clubs of Costa Mesa and Newport-Balboa will join with Newport Mesa officials at College Park Elementary School at 8 a.m. Thursday for the Flag Deck and Arbor Day big-boxed tree planting, according to Peter Smith, Arbor Day chairman.

More than 2,200 seedlings were distributed to third-graders in local schools this week as part of a 41-year tradition of Rotary, helping youth to appreciate trees and their responsibility for our planet.

The public is invited to join in the dedication as well.
