Estancia High junior point guard Erika Soto and sophomore forward Kassie Stratton earned first-team All-Orange Coast League girls’ basketball honors after leading the Eagles’ turnaround from a year ago.
Costa Mesa junior point guard Olivia Scheidt made the first team.
The Eagles finished 14-11, 5-3 in league. They had 11 more wins than last season. Estancia earned the league’s No. 3 entry into the CIF Southern Section playoffs.
During the 2007-08 season, Estancia went 3-23, 0-9.
First-year co-coach Xavier Castellano credits Soto and Stratton for the program’s improvement. Soto missed the Eagles’ 62-20 Division IV-A first-round loss due to a torn meniscus.
Soto averaged 9.7 points per game, second best on the team behind Stratton’s 16.3. Stratton is a repeat first-team honoree.
Scheidt averaged 9.2 points per game for Costa Mesa (5-18, 0-8)
Estancia sophomore guard/forward Yessenia Maldonado and sophomore shooting guard Brenda Soto made the second team.
Maldonado averaged 7.2 points per game and Brenda, Erika’s younger sister, averaged 5.9 points.
Calvary Chapel’s Amanda Souder was the league Player of the Year.
