Mariners Christian captures league title in basketball

Mariners Christian School’s eighth-grade boys’ basketball team finished the season on Feb. 12 with a 47-42 win against Ensign to clinch the Coastal Athletic League Junior High Championship.

It was a real battle between the teams and went back and forth until the end. Mariners players including Jack McBean, Derek Kula, and Luke Marchiorlatti all had exceptional performances, as well as skillful play by David McCutchan, John Harzan, Josh Haar, and Luke Langdon. Jeff Lloyd, Blake Grable, R.J. Simmons, Rob Rosenast, and Chris Okey all gave valuable contributions to the team win.

The team’s all-star season consisted of 13 wins and only one loss.

MCS Coach Mike Hatcher said of the win, “Our team played as a cohesive unit all season. In the championship game all 12 players contributed, making it a total team victory. We hit some big shots when we needed them and played great team defense. You won’t find a more talented group of players in the area.”
