MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

IRVINE — Senior All-American Jon Steller had a season-best and match-high 16 kills to lead the No. 5-ranked Anteaters to a 30-24, 30-22, 30-19 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation win at Crawford Court Wednesday.
Sophomore Jordan DuFault added 12 kills, while hitting .417 and tied his career-high with seven block assists for UCI (5-2, 2-1 in conference).
Senior Taylor Wilson hit .500 and recorded five digs and five blocks, while junior Bryan Simmons matched his career-high with eight kills, hit .778 and led the team with a career-best eight block assists.
Senior Ryan Ammerman totaled 46 set assists, two aces and a career-high seven block assists.
Middle blocker Kevin Wynne put away six kills and had four blocks.
Phil Bannan, a Corona del Mar High product led UCSD (1-3, 0-2) with 23 assists.
The Anteaters will travel to Long Beach State Friday at 7 p.m. at The Pyramid.

FULLERTON — Sophomore Simone Ibbotson scored 16 points for the Pirates, ranked No. 13 in the state, in the Orange Empire Conference game Wednesday.
Sophomore Casey Gomez added 11 points for OCC (16-7, 3-1 in conference).
Fullerton, ranked No. 17 in the state, improved to 16-7, 4-0.
There were 16 lead changes and 12 ties before the Hornets pulled away.

MALIBU — Freshman Steven Henderson earned the Anteaters’ lone win at No. 6 singles in the season-opening nonconference match against the No. 14-ranked Waves Wednesday.
Henderson beat Alex Moreno, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6.
The Anteaters will play host to No. 70-ranked BYU Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Racquet Club of Irvine.
