Ocean View High boys’ basketball coach Jim Harris, who on Jan. 3 led the school to its 600th all-time victory in the sport, will be recognized for the accomplishments he has achieved during his 31-year tenure at the school at Tuesday’s Huntington Beach City Council meeting.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

“I thought this would be a nice way to show an appreciation for what Coach Harris has accomplished at Ocean View High School and in the sports community in general,” said third-year Huntington Beach Councilman Joe Carchio, who is a former baseball and football coach at Ocean View. “He deserves the recognition.”

Ocean View supporters, former coaches and players are welcome to attend Tuesday’s meeting, Carchio said.

Since defeating Mission Viejo to earn the schools 600th victory Jan. 3, Ocean View has defeated Segerstrom on opening night of Golden West League play Friday. The Seahawks faced Santa Ana on Wednesday, but the score wasn’t available at press time.

Through Tuesday, Harris’ all-time record at the school was 601-248.

“This milestone is a great testament to my father’s legacy,” said Jimmy Harris, who serves as co-coach of the Seahawks.

Jimmy Harris played at Ocean View from the 1989-90 season through the 1992-93 season and was an all-league, All-CIF and All-America player.

“Playing for my father was an incredible experience that was sometimes difficult and confusing, but one I would never trade because of the lessons I learned and the friendships I still have,” Jimmy Harris said.
