Newport-Mesa quartet earns All-CIF accolades

Newport Harbor High’s Katey Thompson and Sage Hill’s Lindsey Kish, along with Corona del Mar’s Madie Smith and Sydney Brombal have been honored as All-CIF Southern Section girls’ volleyball team members as selected by the Girls’ Volleyball Coaches’ Selection Committee.

Thompson, a junior middle blocker, was named to the Division I second team. The Daily Pilot Dream Team Player of the Year compiled 263 kills, 66 blocks, 36 service aces and 26 digs, helping the Sailors reach the CIF Southern Section Division I-AA quarterfinals. She also earned first-team All-Sunset League recognition after leading Newport Harbor to a second-place finish in the Sunset League.

Smith, a junior known as one of the top setters in Orange County, earned first-team All-CIF Division II honors. She is a two-time Daily Pilot Dream Team honoree, who helped lead the Sea Kings to their third straight Pacific Coast League championship. Smith, the PCL Player of the Year as a sophomore, came away with first-team all-league honors this past season with a team-high 938 assists. She also had 307 digs, 67 kills and 19 aces.

Brombal, a junior outside hitter, was named to the All-CIF Division II second team. A first-team All-Pacific Coast League performer, she finished with 216 kills, 269 digs and 34 service aces. She was a key player in the the Sea Kings reaching the CIF Southern Section Division II-A championship and the CIF State Division II Southern California Regional championship.

Kish, a junior outside hitter, earned first-team All-CIF Division IV honors. The Daily Pilot Dream Team performer led the Lightning to a share of the Academy League title, Sage Hill’s second co-championship in four years. Kish, a first-team All-Academy League honoree, led the Lightning with 158 kills and 190 digs. She helped Sage Hill reach the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division IV-AA playoffs.
