CITY MANAGER UPDATE

The following items are from the Laguna Beach City Manager Ken Frank’s Friday Updates in December.
? Planning counter hours
The Community Development counter will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday. Previously, the counter closed at 3 p.m. so staff could complete the paperwork for the day’s activities and to be prepared for the next morning.
However, in order to improve customer service and provide as much flexibility as possible, the counter will now be open longer.
People wishing to make an appointment with one of the planners will still need to do so during the morning.
? State grant money halted
State agencies have been advised to stop all grant projects in the wake of the state budget crisis, and Laguna Beach may not receive funds that were promised.
These outstanding grant funds include the final reimbursement for Heisler Park construction costs and more than $300,000 for the Community Center. Several other minor grants are outstanding as well.
Also, the proposed $2.5 million new grant for the last phase of Heisler Park will probably not get funded unless there is an agreement fairly soon.
? City Treasurer appointment
City Treasurer Laura Parisi has been appointed by the president of the League of California Cities to serve as a member of the League’s Statewide Revenue and Taxation Committee.
Parisi was previously a member of the committee as a representative of the California Treasurer’s Assn.
