SANTA BARBARA — The Sailors, champions of the Sunset League, ended their season with a loss to the top-seeded Dons in the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs.
The match had been originally scheduled for Tuesday, but because of the poor air quality from the recent fires it was postponed. The Sailors end their season at 19-4.
Sage Hill plays Friday
The No. 2-seeded Lightning will be seeking revenge Friday when they play host to Walnut in a semifinal of the CIF Southern Section Division IV playoffs at Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club.
Sage Hill (23-6) was knocked out of last year’s quarterfinals by Walnut, which advanced to this year’s semifinals with a 12-6 win over South Torrance Wednesday. The Lightning had won the pre-match coin flip for a home match, which was scheduled to be played today. But Walnut asked for a day to prepare, and Sage Hill Athletic Director John Poffenberger agreed, Sage Hill Coach A.G. Longoria said.
