Laguna Beach High recognized eight female student-athletes by holding a “mock” signing day on campus Wednesday morning.
The athletes “” seniors Taylor Dodson, Annika Dries, Piper Obradovich, Alexandra Palmer, Andrea Reigel, Natasha Schulman, Chelsea Wild and Sarah Zuziak “” have committed to four-year schools on athletic scholarship. Laguna Beach Athletic Director Mike Churchill said he was told by the parents of the eight girls that each intended to sign her actual National Letter of Intent later.
“These young ladies are all excellent examples of the student-athlete concept that we admire at Laguna Beach High School,” Churchill said.
One Breaker to sign her letter-of-intent Wednesday was Dries. The accomplished water polo player and swimmer went to lunch with her parents, then signed her letter-of-intent with Stanford.
“It was a family thing and it was very exciting for us,” said Dries, who added that she had narrowed her choices to Stanford and UCLA. “Stanford fits me academically, athletically and socially. It’s really awesome to see all these girls being able to sign with all these schools. I’ve competed with several of them throughout the years and we’re teammates, and it’s exciting that we all got to this level together. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my teammates.”
