Senior golfer Jane Chin, a graduate of Marina High School, is in the midst of a standout season for the UC Irvine women’s golf team.
The Huntington Beach native was named Big West Conference Golfer of the Month and became the only UCI player to ever win three consecutive individual titles: Coast BMW Intercollegiate, Price’s “Give ‘Em Five†Invitational and the Kent Youel Invitational.
Chin won the Kent Youel Invitational with a tournament record 203 (68-66-69), nine shots ahead of San Francisco’s Christina Stockton. Chin’s 54-hole total of 203 was a school record, as was her 36-hole score of 134. Her second round 66 matches the school record held by teammate Patty Chawalitmetha.
Chin, a social sciences major at UCI, currently is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the Golfstat rankings with a 69.92 scoring average.
In other UCI news, Fountain Valley High grad David Sias, a defender on the UCI men’s soccer team, has helped the Anteaters capture its first Big West regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the Big West Tournament that began Wednesday.
Sias has started in 64 games in his career, the 10th most of any player in UCI history. The Anteaters defense has allowed only 0.93 goals per game this year, the 45th best mark in the nation.
UCI entered the week ranked 10th nationally in the College Soccer News poll and is ranked No. 1 in the Far West Region.
