SANTA BARBARA — Irving Garcia, Gray Bailey and Spencer Thompson scored a goal each for the No. 20-ranked Anteaters, who overcame a 1-0 deficit to beat the No. 13-ranked Gauchos in a Big West Conference game Saturday.

Kevin Santora and Carlos Aguilar had assists for the Anteaters (10-1-6, 3-1-4 in conference).

Vanguard 1 (2 OT)

AZUSA — The No. 12-ranked Cougars collected an own goal in the 108th minute to beat the No. 15-ranked Lions in a Golden State Athletic Conference game.

Vanguard’s Albert Quinones scored in the 37th minute for a 1-0 lead that was assisted by Tomislav Colic. APU (11-3-3, 8-1-1 in conference) tied it up in the 56th minute. The victory gave the Cougars the title, as Vanguard (7-2-1, 9-5-2) finished second.

Championships

RIVERSIDE — Senior Laura Olvera finished second and led the UC Irvine women to second place Saturday at UC Riverside’s Agricultural Operations Course.

UC Riverside won its first Big West women’s cross country title with 60 points, UCI followed with 69 and UC Davis was third with 81.

Danielle Domenichelli of UC Santa Barbara was the individual champion with a time of 20 minutes, 9.40 seconds over the 6,000-meter course, Olvera came behind in 20:12.50. Olvera has finished in the Big West top three each of her four years.

UCI’s Candice Chavez was fifth in 20:27.40 as she earned all-conference honors for the second consecutive season. Gabriela Santana placed 16th (21:14.90), Samantha Costantini was 18th (21:19.50) and Lauren Chramosta 28th (21:41.80) to complete the Anteaters’ scoring five.

The Cal Poly men’s team won its sixth straight Big West title with 19 points, UC Davis finished second with 71 and UC Riverside third with 73 as UCI placed sixth with 162 points.

Nick Mosey was UCI’s top runner with a 20th-place time of 25:11.1. Rex Nelson finished 24th in 25:20.8, Danny Kalinowski was 41st (26:01.7), Nick Osborne 44th (26:17.5) and Victor Bonilla 48th (26:28.6) to round out UCI’s top five.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Vanguard 3, Azusa Pacific 1

AZUSA — Karri Currier scored two goals to help the Lions upset the No. 3-ranked Cougars in a Golden State Athletic Conference game.

Theresa Broad also scored a goal for Vanguard (8-4-3, 3-4-2 in conference), which snapped APU’s GSAC winning streak at 27 games, home winning streak at 26 games and home unbeaten streak at 41 games.
