Sandcastle contest theme is ‘Going for Gold’
The Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce will host its 47th annual Sandcastle Contest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Corona del Mar State Beach. This year’s theme is “Going for Gold.”
Fifty groups ranging from children to professional architects will craft their creations until 2 p.m., followed by a judging process.
Thousands of people attend the annual event.
Prize categories range from Most Humorous Creation to the Best Overall Creation.
Two round-trip passes to Catalina Island will also be given away.
The fee for architectural firms to enter is $60; all other businesses are $40. Families and other civic groups are $30.
There will only be room for 50 teams of up to eight members to compete; each team will receive eight commemorative T-shirts.
Additional shirts will be on sale at the event for $10.
