YOUTH SCENE:

It was a charmed beginning to the 2008 AYSO season for the Lucky Charms, a girls’ Under-9 division team out of Region 56.

The Charms began their new campaign Sept. 13 with a 6-5 win over the Pink and Blue Hawaiian Tide. Scoring was provided by Lindsay Heckman, Gretchen Kirkreit, Casey Sommer and Lauren Schuck. Three days later, the defense paved the way for the Charms in a 6-2 win over the Soccer Rockers. The attack was led by Meredith Saeman, Vivian Cronk, Ryan Brown, Hannah VanMullem and Kaila Martin.

Boys’ Under-12 Division

Golden Potatoes 6, Maroon Platoon 2: A goal by Cooper Kossick off a feed from Gavin Kirkreit in the opening minute of the game Saturday sent the Golden Potatoes on their way to a win over the Maroon Platoon. It was also the first of three goals for the Golden Potatoes in the first half.

The Maroon Platoon pulled to within 3-1 on a goal by Ebram Gerges just seconds into the third quarter.

But Ben Spetner made up for that score when he posted the next two goals to make it a 5-1 game.

Inline Hockey

Guerin Weeks and Jack McKeown scored goals in the final 12:49 to break a tie and secure a 4-3 victory for Freestyle over The Goonies in Norris Division play at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach Monday.

The Goonies had pulled into a 2-2 tie when Joey Lambur scored at the 13:53 mark of the third period. Weeks scored the go-head goal a minute later and McKeown gave Free Style a two-goal cushion (4-2) with 9:24 to play.

Kyle Barrett also scored for Free Style and Sam Harju and Noah Gealy each had an assist. Marlin Liberatore finished with 27 saves.

Danielle Oliver and Madeline Hawkins scored for The Goonies.

Smythe Division

Panthers 5, Puckhogs 3: Jordan Reichenbach and Tyler Beardshear each scored two goals — with each scoring once in overtime — for the Panthers, who held off the Puckhogs.

Garrett Zolg also posted a goal and he, along with Beardshear and Jake Shaylor, had an assist. Alvin Do recorded 24 saves.

Dylan Reightley scored twice and had an assist and Marlin Liberatore scored once with an assist for the Puckhogs. Trenton Shehan had 32 saves.
