Rustlers lose rivalry game in final minutes to OCC
Saturday’s football game between Golden West College and Orange Coast College, now known as “The West-Coast Showdown,†went down to the wire, and it was Orange Coast that rallied to win the American Mountain Conference game.
Ray Holley scored on a 1-yard run with 30 seconds left to give the Pirates a 16-13 victory over the Rustlers at OCC’s LeBard Stadium.
Rustlers quarterback Michael VanDeripe completed 19 of 30 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns, both to wide receiver Lavasier Tuinei, who caught five passes for 128 yards.
The victory allowed OCC to keep the Victory Bell for a second consecutive year.
Golden West, 1-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play, returns to action at 6 p.m. Saturday for a conference matchup against L.A. Harbor at OCC.
