Segerstrom recognized for his communication

Woodbury University will host a reception Sunday in honor of Orange County philanthropist and businessman Henry Segerstrom.

Segerstrom will be the recipient of the annual Julius Shulman Award. The award is given to individuals who understand the essentials of objective and qualitative communication.

Segerstrom is the founding chairman of the Orange County Performing Arts Center. Among his accomplishments, he has contributed to his community through gifts of land and funds, as well as commissions of architecture and environmental sculpture.

Past recipients of the award include actor Dustin Hoffman, actress Lily Tomlin, publisher Benedikt Taschen, Crystal Cathedral pastor Robert H. Schuller and “California’s Gold” host Huell Howser.

A cocktail and buffet reception will begin at 6 p.m. with a program honoring the Segerstroms beginning at 7 p.m. at Woodbury University, 7500 Glenoaks Blvd., Burbank. The cost is $50 per person, and proceeds benefit Woodbury University’s Library Associates, a volunteer organization dedicated to improving library services.
