Huntington Beach Residents to Serve as Judge for Toshiba Green Awards

Huntington Beach residents Daryl G. Pelc and Michael Siersema are among a panel of Orange County’s brightest “green” minds brought together by Toshiba to judge its second-annual Toshiba Green Innovations Awards on Oct. 1, 2008.

Daryl G. Pelc, Senior Vice President, Boeing Corporation

Daryl Pelc is vice president of Engineering & Technology for Advanced Systems, a business segment of Boeing’s Integrated Defense Systems (IDS). In this role, Pelc is responsible for the technology planning process across IDS and for developing and transitioning technologies from Phantom Works and other strategic sources into the businesses. In addition, Pelc has responsibility for mission assurance and for the engineering execution of Advanced Systems programs.

Pelc has more than 25 years of engineering/management experience with Boeing, starting with an internship position at McDonnell-Douglas in St. Louis in 1982. In addition to serving as the Boeing Southwest Region Technical Fellowship Executive Sponsor, he is an active advocate of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), on the board of directors of Operation Jump Start, a member of the Leadership Council of the Beall Center for Art and Technology, an associate of the Milken Institute, a member of AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics) and was an executive sponsor of the Long Beach Diversity Council. Pelc is a requested speaker for internal and external business and community events.

A native of Belleville, Illinois, Pelc earned a Master in Business Administration from Pepperdine University and Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana. Pelc is married to Patricia and has two children, Jack and Edward.

Michael Siersema, Technical Director, CSC

Michael Siersema works with sales to develop business solutions to challenges facing business and information technology professionals. He honed his electrical engineering foundation from product conceptualization, marketing analysis, through all phases of hardware and software product lifecycle. He has held positions of CIO and CTO. He has worked in a multitude of industries, including financial, aerospace and e-commerce, medical instrumentation, semiconductors, telephony, hi-tech manufacturing, health systems, retail and distribution.

Starting from assembly programmer, applications developer, and system architect, he has a proven record of expertise and experience in development and implementation of large multi-functional systems from front end customer facing CRM to back end supply chain systems using computing infrastructures across many technology platforms. His strong technical knowledge of infrastructure design and operations background has led to specializing in designing state-of-the-art green data centers and greening the desktop environment for businesses worldwide.

As an entrepreneur, he co-founded a full service tradeshow marketing firm, a personal computer networking company and a management consulting company. As a technologist, his interests vary from personal computer systems/software to HDTV.

A firm believer in personal social responsibility, Siersema gives back to local community as a public works commissioner for the City of Huntington Beach and lends his expertise to the boards of Net Sapiens and Orange County’s Forum for Corporate Directors.

Siersema studied at Stanford University and received a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the University of Phoenix in Santa Clara, Calif.

Panel Selected to Judge Second Annual Award Recognizing Green Values: Deadline Extended Until Sept. 19th

The deadline date for entry has now been extended until Sept. 19, 2008. Winners will be announced in conjunction with the https://ocinnovation2008.com/” href=”https://ocinnovation2008.com/”>https://ocinnovation2008.com/”>Innovation and Globalization in Green conference on Oct. 1, 2008.

The annual contest awards prizes for the best “green” products, services, technologies, processes, programs or activities from Orange County, Calif., businesses, educators, institutions and organizations. Judges will decide which submissions for the Toshiba Green Innovation Award will become finalists by ranking them in two categories: environmental value and degree of innovation.

The judges were chosen based on their range of backgrounds, which includes business, art, academia and the environment. There will also be a live audience vote at the conference that will award another Toshiba laptop PC to the “people’s choice” winner.
