Jr. Pee Wee Oilers off to strong start
The following is a recap of the past weekend’s action by the area’s youth football teams.

The Huntington Beach Jr. Pee Wee Oilers got their season off to a rollicking start Saturday by defeating the Roland Heights Raiders, 33-6.
Steve Hernandez accounted for four touchdowns for Huntington, which took command of the game in the second quarter. His scoring came after Dylan Harmeyer scored the first touchdown of the season for the Oilers and Daniel Shulze added the extra point.
The Oilers defense was solid all game but was denied a shutout when the Raiders scored with just 15 seconds to play.
Huntington hosts the Inglewood Jets Saturday at Huntington Beach High.

Future League
Carson 22, Huntington 6: Sam Rovano scored on a 30-yard run in the second half, but it wasn’t enough for the Oilers to overcome the Carson Colts.
Nathan O’Rourke came up with three sacks on one Carson possession in the third quarter.
Huntington resumes action Saturday with a road game against the Bellflower Broncos.

A first half splurge set in motion an easy win for the Huntington Green Chargers, who rolled past the host Pasadena Trojans, 28-0, in a Midget Division game.
With an offensive line of Jake Bauers, Patrick Griley, Shane Heath and Jake Lesinski opening big holes, Brenden Henderson, Elijah Herrera, Ryan Loya and Donald Rice all rushed for scores in the first half.
Leading the defensive domination for Huntington was Brody Kyler — who had a sack — Grant Lowman, Trenton Aschoff, Zach Young, Eric Weimer, Cody Boyd, Everett Gilliam, Tala Atoafa, Marcus Stepancich, Joseph Rivera and Jarred Peterson.
Huntington hosts Cypress at 2 p.m. Saturday at Edison High.

Jr. Midget Division
Huntington 29, Cypress 0: The Green Chargers defense registered its second shutout in as many games by blanking the Blue Centurions at Edison High.
The defense locked down the Cypress running game and got numerous sacks from Peter Russo, Trevor Borkowski, Vinnie Dugard-Lopiccolo, Daren Preece and Allen Vogelsang.
Offensively, Tyler MacLeod, Treavon Coley and Steven Tovatt scored touchdowns. MacLeod also had three field goals.
The Green Chargers host the Santa Ana White Monarchs at noon Saturday at Edison High.

Mighty Mite Division
Huntington 33, Garden Grove 7: The Gold Chargers raced to a 27-0 halftime lead and went on to cruise past the Bulldogs.
The offense was led by Nolan Funke, Kyle Drinnon, Cameron Gonzales, Ryan Ruvalcaba, Justin Martinez, Matt Martinez, Connor Sandford, Seth Williams, Drake McKinish, Jake Reidel, Chase Ault, Shaun Colamonico, Ian Wolfe and Nick Warren.
Huntington’s defense didn’t yield a touchdown until the fourth quarter.

Jr. Pee Wee Division
Santa Margarita 20, Huntington 0: The Red Titans jumped out to an early lead and went on to shut out the Gold Chargers at Tesoro High. Safety Anders Davis had an interception and quarterback Colin Kearon connected with Chad Davis on a 40-yard pass play in the fourth quarter for Huntington.
The Gold Chargers host North Long Beach in their league opener Saturday at Edison High.
