Opening Day Soccer Action from AYSO Region 97

United vs. Arsenal (BU10)

Captains Jack Sandy and Lucas Mowery led our team to a 2 to 1 victory over a tough NB Arsenal squad. United jumped in front during the first half on blistering goals by John Rankin and Jack Pitchess. Jackson Wind and Lukas Thompson gutted it out on both sides of the field managing the attacking and defending responsibilities. Colin Avary and John Shepherd anchored the back line against a strong second half Arsenal assault. Brady Scanlan came off his striker position to protect the net as goalie and secure a well earned win. All the boys worked hard for each other and were United.

The NB Arsenal also fought a tough game. Jack McClintock had several shots on goal before putting one into the net for the Arsenal’s only score. Joey Fuller also played a great game, displaying a lot of speed and ball handling skills to get the ball downfield. Dylan Wolfe also played well on offense, as did Jaegger Mitchell, who had several shots on goal. The Arsenal defense worked together to limit United to two goals. Max Lamb held tough in the goal throughout the game, with Reid Crandall and Reef Kugies helped out in front of the net. Jack Christensen and Henry Adams worked hard on both offense and defense.

Newport Strikers (BU10)

This entertaining game featured multiple goals being scored by both teams. The Newport Strikers had goals from John Olmstead (2), Max Gerken, and Wills Cook. The midfielders and defense consisting of Bailey Evans, Dillon Lippmpan, Ronan Ferrentino, Cade Kassouf and Ian Hanson all had multiple game saving defensive efforts. The game was played to a tie in full time and both teams displayed excellent sportsmanship.

The Go-Go’s vs. Mint Chip (GU08)

The Go-go’s started off strong with some stellar defense by Allison Crandell and Grace Fay. Skylar Jacobsen and Lauren Titelman had amazing saves on goal.

Claire Jeffs and Claire Bacon made some great passes. Alina Aguirre and Carolyn Altshuler were strong in both offense and defense.

Purple Poodles (GU07)

In their first game, the Purple Poodles played excellent team soccer. Sadie Pitchess and Grace Kiehnle each scored goals. Taylor Wilkison exhibited aggressive ball skills while Lauren Richter and Lauren Talley provided strong support for the offense. Grace Close and Sophia Applebee played well in goal. Defensively, Nicole Ryu and Alexa Armbruster dominated the middle of the field.

Pink Pixies (GU07)

The Newport Heights soccer fields lit up this past Saturday morning as the Pink Pixies and the Green Machine went head to head in a match for the ages. Goals were scored by Tyesha Aguilar, Peyton Kassouf, Mia Ferrentino, Summer Nedelman and Zoe Dethloff. Outstanding goal keeping from Quinci Miller and super defensive plays from Megan Houlihan and Calista Kerins kept the ball going end to end. This was an exciting season opener for both teams all attending.

The Incredible Hulks (BU06)

The Incredible Hulks (BU06) came out with a roar in their season opener on Saturday. Joseph Whelan and Finn McClintock led to offense with amazing dribbling that led to two goals apiece, while Aidan Gassel had some great kickoffs and throw ins. Jerome Snyder made some a number of steals, Dominic Bueno did a great job clearing the ball, and Dylan Aust made some great defense plays for the Hulks.The Incredible Hulks came out with a roar in their season opener on Saturday. Hamburglers vs. Ninjas (BU05)

Saturday September 6th 2008 at Lindbergh Field in Costa Mesa, fans witnessed stellar play by the AYSO Region 97 boys U-5 teams of the Hamburglers and the Ninjas. In the first game of the season, Caden Skibby cuts between two Ninjas as Rowan Piani encourages him on his way down field to take a shot on goal. Both teams showed skill as it was a well-played game.

The Bulldozers vs. The Sharks (BU05)

The Bulldozers had an amazing game vs. the Sharks. Michael Woodward was awesome in defense while James Alleman made some great passes. Charlie Jeffs Jeffs and John Fay scored goals. Peter Joslin showed amazing team spirit by cheering his team on.

Tigers (BU05)

This was an awesome game as the boys from both teams banded together to make some great plays. Teamwork was demonstrated by all players on the Tigers. Chip Deegan, Billy Rankin and Braeden Kassouf all scored goals and stellar defensive efforts were made by Charlie Swanson and Preston Pitchess. The Falcons played a great match and all had a great first game of the fall season.
