WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

UC Irvine def. Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. — Senior Lauren Kellerman blasted a career-high .652 hitting percentage, putting away 16 of 23 attempts with just one error to lead the Anteaters to a 25-22, 25-14, 25-16 win Friday at the Nike Portland Invitational.

The Anteaters (3-2) recorded a .351 attack percentage while holding the Pilots (1-4) to .153. Kellerman’s 16 kills were a match-high as the outside hitter added eight digs and a service ace.

Opposite Shannan Homan added a pair of service winners while chipping in eight kills. Outside hitter Larissa Nordyke also put in eight kills while setter Taryn Robertson led all players with 11 digs and 35 assists.

MORAGA — Junior Irving Garcia gave the Anteaters a 1-0 lead, but they settled for a tie after two overtimes Friday at the Saint Mary’s Tournament.

UCI (2-0-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 74th minute when Garcia scored his first goal of the season.

The Hornets tied the match in the 86th minute.

Sophomore keeper Pat Barton had five saves in the match for the ’Eaters.

COSTA MESA — The Lions dropped their season opener, losing in nonconference action Friday.

Vanguard goalie Trevor Herrera had four saves.

Long Beach City 2,

COSTA MESA — Gustavo Ibarra scored in the 90th minute for the Pirates to prevent a shutout in the nonconference game at OCC on Friday.

Long Beach (2-0-1) broke up a scoreless tie in the 52nd minute. The Vikings scored again in the 66th minute for a 2-0 lead.

In the 90th minute, OCC (2-1-0) scored, as Ibarra took a long pass from Edwardo Garcia and flicked a header past the charging Vikings goalkeeper. .

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Loyola Marymount 3,

UC Irvine 1

LOS ANGELES — UC Irvine sophomore Gilly Acedo scored the Anteaters’ only goal late in the nonconference game Friday at Loyola Marymount.

LMU (1-3-1) scored twice in the first half, and again early in the second half to seize control.

Senior goalie Erin Henry had three saves for UCI (1-3), moving into eighth place on the school’s all-time list with 139 saves.

The Anteaters will play at UCLA on Sunday at 1 p.m.
