OCC PICKED SIXTH
The Orange Coast College football team was picked to finish sixth in the seven-team Southern California Football Assn. Southern Conference in a preseason media poll conducted Thursday.
The Pirates, coming off a 5-5 season in which they were 3-2 in the Mission Conference American Division, received 21 points in the nine-person poll, topping only Long Beach City (15).
Saddleback topped the poll with 56 points, including four first-place votes. Palomar was picked second (46, two first-place votes), while Fullerton (43) was third.
Santa Ana (38) and Grossmont (33), which joined Fullerton as schools receiving one first-place vote, rounded out the poll.

CDM HAS OPEN SPOTS
Corona del Mar High baseball coach John Emme will offer the Fall Baseball Academy on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. from Sept. 15 though Nov. 5 at the Sea Kings’ varsity diamond.
Participants in seventh and eighth grade, as well as ninth-graders not participating in any sports, will be limited to the first 50 registrants who pay a $450 fee.
Instruction will focus on improving offensive and defensive skills including hitting, pitching and fielding, as well as the mental approach to the game.
Players will receive a hat and a T-shirts, as well as personalized videotape that will be reviewed with the coaches.
