Economic development director placed on leave will return to work

Huntington Beach’s director of economic development is going back to work after he was put on leave by the city for a personnel review, officials said Monday.

Economic Development Director Stanley Smalewitz “voluntarily participated in a personnel review conducted by Human Resources,” city spokeswoman Laurie Payne wrote in a news release. Smalewitz resumes his duties Tuesday morning, according to the message.

Smalewitz was placed on administrative leave by the city on Aug. 7, but officials said the reason for the investigation was confidential.
