One of five off-duty police officers involved in a shooting at a Dairy Queen in the high desert was from Huntington Beach, authorities confirmed this week.
Huntington Beach police Lt. Mitchell O’Brien said one of the department’s officers was involved in the Sunday shooting in the city of Ludlow, but the department was not releasing the officer’s name pending an investigation.
According to reports of the incident, a transient, Daniel Pettit, went behind the counter of the store and started making threats with a screwdriver and knife, then lunged forward. After he was shot, Pettit was arrested and booked on suspicion of attempted robbery by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
