Gold Coast X-treme BU11 win FC Irvine Tournament

The Gold Coast X-treme Black BU11 team won their second tournament of the summer, defeating FC Golden State in the FC Irvine Championship game on Aug. 17.

Coached by Gabriel and Ed Montoya, the BU11 team won their bracket over the weekend, and face a strong team from North Irvine SC in the semi-final game. After a tightly-contested and scoreless first half, Allen Montero got the X-treme team on the board first by beating the North Irvine defender to a clearing pass, and blasting a shot past the keeper for a 1-0 lead. Moments later, Garrett Zolg scored the eventual game-winner with a strike from the top of the box, putting X-treme ahead 2-0. North Irvine scored on a penalty-kick during the game’s final minutes to make it 2-1, but could get no closer as X-treme headed to the Championship game against FC Golden State.

X-treme’s endurance and conditioning paid off on the hot Sunday afternoon. Jorge Garcia scored first for the X-treme, beating the keeper from 25 yards out for a 1-0 lead. 5 minutes later, Shayne Shubin headed a corner kick that found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. Garen Balikcioglu finished off the scoring for the X-treme, as they rolled to a 3-0 victory. Earlier in the summer, the X-treme Black team won the Gold Coast Soccer Club’s X-treme Cup.
