PET OF THE WEEK

The Community Animal Network has a large selection of cats that are available to be adopted in pairs to give each a pal at home. Gucci and Versace are 6-month-old Flame Point Siamese brothers who look like identical twins.

Maki is a 1-year-old Siamese cat hoping to live with her best friend, Tiger Lily, who is a tabby cat. Probrecieto is a black and white 4-month-old whose friend is a calico named E.T.

“Most kittens in a litter have picked friends in their litter group that give them comfort and are playmates,” network founder DiAnna Pfaff-Martin said. “The animal’s caregivers are available to speak with [those interested] and can tell you who each litter’s best friends are.

See the network’s adoption cages full of cats and kittens from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Fashion Island adoption weekend event sponsored by Russo’s Pet Experience.

Community Animal Network gives pet-parenting classes to families who adopt from the network.

The class teaches how to keep cats happy indoors and one of the secrets is to adopt cats and kittens as pairs.

School is starting soon and children volunteers who work at the network will begin to dwindle with the demands of school and sports. The Community Animal Network asks that people consider volunteering year round to help local animals.

If you cannot give time, donations can be mailed to Community Animal Network, P.O. Box 8662 Newport Beach, CA, 92658 and memo your check non-profit tax ID 33-0971560.
