Seniors Inducted Into Martial Arts Hall Of Fame

Masters and Academy of Masters Martial Arts Hall of Fame Inducts Two Costa Mesa Senior Citizens on August 16, 2008 in Anaheim.

Two Costa Mesa senior citizens residents will be honored at the 2008 Masters and Academy of Masters Martial Arts Hall of Fame banquet to be held on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at the Anaheim Hilton Hotel in Anaheim, California.

Robert Smith, 70, holds a 6th degree black belt in Shuyokan Ryu Aikijutsu and will be receiving the Masters Hall of Fame Life Achievement Award for his 26 years training the martial arts. Bob currently holds the position fo Assistant Chief Instructor at the Shuyokan Dojo located in Costa Mesa.

Judy Hubbard, 69, who holds a 2nd degree black belt in Shuyokan Ryu Aikijutsu and has been training for approximately 5 years, will receive the Academy of Masters Hall of Fame Female Student of The Year Award for her dedication to furthering her training in her study of the martial arts.

Their teacher, Sensei David Dye, with 46 years in the martial arts and better know as the “Samurai Cop”, said that he is extremely proud of both of these students who continue to surprise him in class by setting examples for other students to follow. “I learn more from them than they will ever learn form me as their teacher and I am truly respectful of their dedication and commitment not only the Shuyokan, but to the entire martial arts community. They really prove that your age does not stand in the way and that you can master your goals and achieve the recognition that they will receive on August 16, 2008”

The Masters Hall of Fame was founded in 1999 and is dedicated to “recognizing excellence in the martial arts”. The Academy of Masters was created in 2006 to honor those for “creating excellence in the martial arts”

This years sold out event will be attended by over 300 people which will include such martial artists as Middleweight Champion Bill “Super Foot “ Wallace, Champion Kick Boxer Kathy Long, martial arts actors Eric Lee and Don “The Dragon” Wilson and UFC Referee and Trainer, “Big John” McCarthy, just to name a few.

Kicking off the event will be morning and afternoon martial arts seminars for all martial arts styles.
