Costa Mesa council needs committee members

About a dozen positions will open up on four Costa Mesa committees in the near future, and the city is accepting applications to fill the spaces.
The Redevelopment and Residential Rehabilitation Committee, known as the 3R Committee, has the most seats that will soon be vacant. Six positions will need to be filled on the committee, which makes recommendations to the City Council on how to spend about $2 million in federal funds every year, in addition to other duties.
True to its name, the committee focuses on residential developments subsidized by the government. Although City Council members have final say over how the money is allocated, they didn’t make any significant changes to the 3R Committee’s recommendations this year.
“They don’t usually change [the funding] drastically, but they do make changes,” said Muriel Ullman, the city’s neighborhood improvement manager.
Three other committees will also have vacancies. The Historical Preservation Committee is looking for three members, the Cultural Arts Committee needs one, and the Child Care and Youth Services Committee needs one member and two alternates.
The City Council will pick all of the committee members from the pool of applicants.
Those interested in serving on any of the bodies can get a Committee Interest Form from the city manager’s office in City Hall or from www.ci.costa-mesa.ca.us. Forms can be submitted until 5 p.m. Sept. 19.
