LOCALS START IT UP
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Slammers girls’ under-15 team, featuring the Corona del Mar High quartet of Scarlett Fallon, Jordan Dillion, Lindsey Luke and Tessa Andujar, played to a 1-1 tie with the Dallas Texans in the opening game at the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships Wednesday.
Andujar set up the Slammers’ goal, drawing a foul that led to a free kick. Francesco Coxe delivered it to the back post, where Jordan Obrien redirected it into the net.
Luke had a fingertip save in the first half, but the Texans were able to tie the score with five minutes left in the match.
The So Cal Blues, coached by Vanguard University head man Randy Dodge, defeated Scorpions Elite, 2-1. The Slammers and So Cal Blues are in separate pools.
The So Cal Blues girls’ under-16 team, which includes Newport Harbor High’s Elizabeth Eddy and Gillian Hogan, lost its first pool-play game, 1-0, to PDA Fire of New Jersey.
The Slammers girls’ under-19 team, which includes Corona del Mar High product Taylor Fallon, beat Force FC of Michigan, 3-2.
The Slammers girls’ under-17 team lost, 2-0, to the Dallas Texans in its first pool-play game.
