Hagestad finishes fifth
SAN DIEGO — Stewart Hagestad, a Newport Beach resident, birdied his final hole to finish tied for fifth with eight others in the boys’ 15-17 division of the Junior Golf Championships at the Torrey Pines South Course Friday.
Hagestad birdied the par-five No. 9 hole, but then bogeyed four of the next five holes before his birdie on 18. Overall, he bogeyed seven holes and had three birdies, finishing with four-over-par 76 for his final round. For the tournament, Hagestad was 76-72-72-76 for eight-over 296. He was tied for 14th after the second round.
Eugene Wong of Canada won the boys’ 15-17 division, carding a four-under 68 for his final round. He won the title by one stroke at four-under 284 (75-71-70-68.
Hagestad will compete in the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships July 31 through Aug. 3 at the PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. He will compete in the boys’ 16-18 age division. Hagestad finished in a tie for second in the boys’ 16-18 division of the 2007 Optimist International Junior Golf Championships.
