Wacholder, Turner just miss out on gold in Paris
The women’s team of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh and men’s team of Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers “” the top-ranked teams on the Assn. of Volleyball Professionals Crocs Tour “” won gold last weekend at the Henkel Grand Chelem.
The tournament, played in Paris, was a key qualifier for the August Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.
Laguna Beach High grad Rachel Wacholder (1993) and Tyra Turner just missed out on winning gold, as the pair fell in the women’s final to May-Treanor/Walsh. By claiming silver, Wacholder and Turner won their second medal on the international circuit this year. They also earned silver earlier this month at a Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) tournament in Stare Jablonki, Poland.
Current Olympic qualification standings (women): 1. Misty May-Treanor/Kerri Walsh (6,240); 2. Elaine Youngs/Nicole Branagh (4,300); 3. Jen Boss/April Ross (3,940); 4. Tyra Turner/Rachel Wacholder (3,580).
