Ocean View’s Baxter named to LA84 roster

Scott Baxter, who graduated earlier this month from Ocean View High, has been selected to the 2008 LA84 Division II baseball team’s second team.

During the 2008 season, the pitcher/infielder was a major force behind Ocean View’s run to a sixth straight Golden West League championship. He went 5-5 with a 3.43 earned-run average on the mound this year. Offensively, Baxter hit a team-best .393 and drove in 24 runs.

Baxter and senior Ramiro Velasco of Santa Ana, were the only players from the Golden West League to make the Division II team (formerly All-CIF).

“Scott was a big contributor for us this year,” Ocean View Coach Shane Borowski said. “He was our most consistent hitter, and I still think he was far from reaching his full potential. He has a lot more baseball in him and I hope he works hard to fulfill that potential.”
