Amateur radio operators will have fun at Field Day

The DNB Amateur Radio Club will be operating this weekend from atop the Coast Hills in Newport Coast. Four emergency powered stations will operate at the end of Ridge Park Road near the entrance to the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park.
This event is called Field Day and is the most popular event among amateur radio enthusiasts. Nationwide, thousand of stations operating on emergency power are manned by tens of thousands of “hams.”
According to the American Radio Relay League, Field Day is help amateur radio operators “learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions. A premium is placed on developing skills to meet the challenges of emergency preparedness as well as to acquaint the general public with the capabilities of Amateur Radio.”
The event starts on Saturday morning at 11a.m. and will conclude 24 hours later. Visitors are welcome to stop by and see what fun hams have communicating with other hams all across the country.
