RESTAURANT ROUNDUP:

Pinot Provence in Costa Mesa will host “Summer in Provence” from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays until Aug. 28.

“It’s a really fun event that we’re doing throughout the summer,” Assistant General Manager Lauren Guillow said. “People are able to get a taste of typical Provence summer dishes.”

The weekly event features a four-course meal with wine and dessert.

The seating is more conducive to a family atmosphere, with a long, rectangular table housing diners on the restaurant’s patio.

Chefs prepare the meals in front of diners.

“You get to interact with the chefs,” Guillow said. “It’s all prepared right in the same room so you have a front row seat of how the dishes are made. It’s pretty exciting.”

Charlie Palmer at Bloomingdale’s in South Coast Plaza is home to wine tasting from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays.

The weekly event will continue all the way into December.

With a sommelier on hand, each outing centers itself on wine from a particular region. Oregon wines were the theme of this past Tuesday’s event while in the month of July, the wines of known regions such as Napa Valley and Sonoma will be on display for tasters.

The restaurant, which opened in May, also features a retail wine shop next door called Next Vintage.

Wine tasters have the opportunity to take home wine from among the shop’s 700 different offerings.

Tickets cost $25 per person, and reservations are required.
