Walters, Di Giulio fall at sectionals

Newport Beach resident Ali Walters and her partner, Alison Ramos from Carson, lost in the girls’ 18s doubles final Sunday at the 106th annual Southern California Junior Sectionals tennis tournament at Los Caballeros Racquet and Sports Club in Fountain Valley.

Newport Beach resident Joseph Di Giulio, competing in boys’ 14s singles, was defeated in the semifinals Sunday, then lost in the third-place match.

Walters and Ramos, the No. 1 seeded duo, fell to No. 3-seeded Kaitlyn Christian of Orange and Sabrina Santamaria, 6-4, 6-4, in the final.

In his semifinal, No. 4-seeded Di Giulio, who won the boys’ 12s singles title at this event in 2007, lost, 6-0, 6-0, to No. 2-seeded Jonathan Huang of Santa Ana.

Di Giulio then fell, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, in the third-place match to No. 3-seeded Rickey Baylor of Buena Park.
