Fire officials await clues to cause of fire that killed 1

The Costa Mesa Fire Department is awaiting a toxicology report to determine the cause of the fire that killed a Westside resident last week.

The Wednesday night fire killed a woman whom officers estimated to be around 55 years old. Battalion Chief Kirk Dominic said his department could not release the woman’s name because her family was still being notified.

The toxicology report could take up to 90 days to arrive, he said.

Neighbors in the complex at 859 W. 19th St. said they heard no cries or other signs of struggle as the fire broke out Wednesday. The fire caused an estimated $150,000 in damages.
