Art premier ‘pops’ up at museum until September

The Orange County Museum of Art will premiere a major exhibition this weekend of the works of American painter Peter Saul.

Saul is considered by many critics to be a pioneer of 20th century Pop Art. The exhibition will make its national debut at the museum in Newport Beach this weekend before traveling to the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia in the fall. A comprehensive look at Saul’s more-than-40-year career, the exhibition is the largest American museum survey ever organized of the artist’s paintings and drawings.

There will be an opening night reception from 8 to 10 p.m. tonight at the museum, 850 San Clemente Drive. Admission is $10 and free to museum members.
